The Savannah Police Department (SPD) arrested a man in connection with the fatal shooting on Wednesday morning near St. Joseph's Hospital.

Pierre Byrd, 53, is being charged with murder, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, according to SPD.

Officers responded to the 12000 block of Middleground Road around 10:40 a.m. when threats were made to the female victim. While on the way, officers were informed that gun shots were fired.

As officers arrived on the scene, the suspect was identified and fled the scene by car. After a brief pursuit, the suspect exited his vehicle and officers apprehended him after a short foot chase.
