DES MOINES, Iowa —
The family of a central Iowa firefighter who died of cancer is getting some relief this holiday season.
Malcolm Cortner was a Des Moines firefighter and paramedic. He died in March after a battle with glioblastoma.
The Tunnel to Towers Foundation has now paid off the mortgage on his Winterset home so his family can stay there.
Cortner and his family played a key role in passing a law that would expand disability benefits for Iowa firefighters.
