LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - Nebraska junior running back Emmett Johnson was named the Big Ten Running Back of the Year on Thursday.

Johnson became the first Nebraska player to post 100 rushing yards and 100 receiving yards in the same game and receive two touchdowns in a game by a running back. Both were set while playing UCLA earlier this season.

On Friday, Johnson rushed for a career-high 217 yards, but it was not enough in Nebraska’s 40-16 loss to Iowa.

Johnson rushed for 1,451 yards on 251 carries with 12 touchdowns this season, posting the first 1,000-yard rushing season by a Husker since 2018 and the highest rushing total by a Nebraska player since Doak Walker Award finalist Ameer Abdullah who had 1,611 rushing yards in 2014.
