The late Diane Keaton was remembered Wednesday night at The Hollywood Reporter ’s annual Women in Entertainment gala in Beverly Hills. Goldie Hawn, who co-starred with Keaton in The First Wives Club, paid tribute to her friend, who died in October at the age of 79.

“Diane lived right below me,” Hawn said through tears. “We could talk to each other, we would laugh because we were so close … She was always on my mind; she was so close to me.”

Hawn remembered going down to her garden and looking over into Keaton’s yard shortly after her friend died of pneumonia. “She just cannot be gone,” Hawn said. “No one like that should ever die.
