The Food and Drug Administration has elevated the recall of more than 1.5 million bags of shredded cheese because they might contain metal fragments.
The recall was first issued by Ohio-based Great Lakes Cheese Co. in October.
On Dec. 1, however, the FDA upgraded the recall to “Class 1″, which means the food “may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences.”
The cheese was sold in different mixes at popular supermarket and retail chains like Aldi, Walmart, and Target. It was also sold under a variety of brand names, including Food Club, Freedom’s Choice, Good & Gather, Great Value, Publix, Sprouts and Happy Farms.
