An inmate at the violence-plagued Miami Correctional Facility is dead after multiple stabbings that shut off visitations just before Thanksgiving, with several housing units still on lockdown a week later.
The Indiana Department of Correction has released almost no information about the stabbings at the maximum-security prison, which recently became a major detention center for undocumented immigrants. The agency did not answer even basic questions, including when the stabbings occurred or how many inmates were involved. What's clear is that there were two 911 calls from the prison on Nov. 26, the day before Thanksgiving. One was at around 9:40 a.m., according to Miami County's dispatch center, and another just after 6 p.m.
