LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Louisville Zoo is welcoming two new Sumatran orangutans for the first time in 28 years, according to a news release.

Sumagu, a 38-year-old female orangutan, and her seven-year-old daughter, Kera, both come to Louisville from the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo.

After completing a standard quarantine and ongoing acclimation period, the news release said, the pair are now rotating with the zoo’s three other orangutans in the dayroom at the Islands habitat. When temperatures warm up in the spring, guests will also be able to see them in the Islands’ outdoor habitats.
