A truck driver lost control, sending it over the side of the bridge in Southside, West Virginia. Luckily, he was rescued by Hurricane Fire.

A driver was rescued from a truck dangling off a bridge in West Virginia amid snowfall after being trapped for nearly five hours.

Video footage from the incident at a bridge in Southside, about 40 miles north of Charleston, shows a harnessed rescue officer pulling the man out of the dangling truck through the window before crews on the bridge pull them up to safety.

Vickie Flora, who filmed the dramatic rescue, told Storyful that the driver was rescued around 10:30 am. No injuries were reported.

Vehicle was dangling '80-100 feet above ground'

Hurricane Mayor Scott Edwards, in a post on social media, said the incident involving a tractor trailer that went over a bridge occurred at 6:25 a.m. in the morning of Dec. 2 on Route 35 in Mason County. Edwards said the Hurricane Fire Department arrived at the scene to find "the cab dangling 80-100 feet above the ground."

A technical rope rescue team and other resources were quickly organized for the "critical and dangerous rescue," Edwards said, adding the driver "was successfully removed after spending 5 hours in the cab."

The Hurricane Fire volunteer firefighter was identified as Westley Quinn. Edwards said more than 20 first responders "assembled to pull off this highly dangerous technical rescue."

The truck was reportedly hauling bricks

Local media outlet WOWK, citing rescue crews, reported the truck was hauling bricks during a winter storm when it lost control, struck a concrete barrier, and skidded over the side of the bridge. The weight of the bricks is assumed to have prevented the entire vehicle from plummeting onto the road below.
