TOMPKINS TWP., Mich. (WILX) - A suspicious deadly fire in Jackson County earlier this fall is now a homicide, according to a new report.
The death certificate of the victim, Sherry Lynn Porter, says she died of a gunshot wound to the head, according to a report from MLive on Thursday.
The fire happened back on Sept. 17 at a home on Maple Lane Road in Tompkins Township.
Authorities discovered the bodies of Porter, 44, and a 46-year-old man inside the home after the fire was extinguished.
At the scene, News 10 spoke with people who said they were family members of the 44-year-old woman and neighbors said they heard what sounded like gunshots prior to the fire. They say they were told by the police the case was being investigated as a murder-suicide.
