John Rustad’s tenure as Leader of the Official Opposition in B.C. lasted just over one year with his resignation as head of the BC Conservatives after a day of dramatic and unprecedented challenges to his authority.

Rustad acknowledged Thursday his leadership had become untenable after 20 of the B.C. Conservative’s 39 MLAS had signed letters calling for his resignation.

“I am announcing that I am stepping down as the Leader of the Conservative party of British Columbia,” Rustad said at a news conference in Victoria.
