The Des Moines metro saw between 7 and 12 inches of snow over the Thanksgiving weekend , with some communities receiving more than a foot as Iowa and much of the Midwest were blanketed with snow.

Iowa saw more than 200 crashes on state highways from Thanksgiving through Sunday, Nov. 30, according to the Iowa State Patrol . Hundreds of Iowa Department of Transportation snowplows were out shortly after flurries started accumulating, Nov. 28, working around the clock to clear Iowa's 24,500 lane-miles of highways.
