THE BRONX (WABC) -- A new era of opportunity is in store for students at Lehman College, part of the City University of New York after the institution received a historic $50 million donation.

The gift from the MacKenzie Scott Foundation was announced at the Lehman College Center for the Performing Arts in the Bronx on Thursday morning.

The celebration featured a big fake check, but the amount on it is very real.

"I've never had someone cold call me and say, 'hey, I have $50 million bucks, are you interested in accepting the gift?' It was so cool, very much so, I'm very interested in receiving the gift," Lehman College President Fernando Delgado said.
