A dog is receiving a second chance at life after West Bridgewater police found her severely neglected during a traffic stop last week.
Officers discovered the dog, named Sprout, in the backseat of a car after citing the vehicle for speeding, according to the Brockton-based Animal Protection Center of Southeastern Massachusetts.
Shelter manager Katie Anderson said Sprout was so weak she could barely stand.
“This was definitely the worst case of starvation I’ve ever seen,” Anderson said. “It’s so sad to even look at her. None of this makes sense.”
Police ordered the owners to take Sprout to an animal hospital immediately and followed to make sure she got there.
Anderson said the owners admitted they had the dog for less than a year and “hadn’t fed her at all,” citing a lack of time and
