It's been one year since UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson was shot dead on Dec. 4, 2024.

Thompson, who was fatally shot outside of a New York City hotel , grew up in Iowa. He joined UnitedHealthcare in 2004 and stepped into the role of CEO in 2021, per his LinkedIn .

Thompson was arriving at the Hilton Hotel in Midtown Manhattan just before 6:45 a.m. when a masked gunman shot him in the chest. He was on his way to an investors’ conference and, according to The New York Times , had arrived early to prepare.
