LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - Congressional leaders are weighing in on President Donald Trump’s pardon of Congressman Henry Cuellar .
After the pardon was announced on Wednesday, December 3, Cuellar thanked the president in several media interviews, saying his prosecution was a targeted case and a “weaponization” of the Justice Department.
Two significant political leaders shared their opinions on the president’s decision to pardon Cuellar.
Democratic Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries said Cuellar is a beloved member of the House of Representatives, loved in his community, particularly in Laredo. Jeffries said he has had the opportunity to spend time with Cuellar in South Texas.
