A serious road traffic collision in Rochdale, Greater Manchester, has resulted in a woman being cut from a vehicle and rushed to hospital. The incident occurred at approximately 8.30pm at the junction of Bolton Road and Eskdale Avenue. Emergency services responded swiftly to the scene, where two cars were involved in the crash.
The Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service reported that they dispatched two fire engines from Rochdale station, along with an enhanced rescue unit from Leigh. Firefighters used specialist cutting equipment to extricate the injured woman, who was subsequently taken to hospital by the North West Ambulance Service. In addition to her, four other individuals sustained injuries and received treatment at the scene.
Authorities have urged the public to avoid the area due to ongoing road closures. A statement from the fire service confirmed, "Our crews are currently dealing with a major road traffic collision on the corner of Bolton Road and Eskdale Avenue in Rochdale. Road closures are in place and people should avoid the area if possible."
This incident follows a tragic event earlier in the week, where a 61-year-old man named Jason Parr was killed in a collision involving his e-bike and two pedestrians in north Manchester. His daughter expressed her heartbreak, stating, "We are heartbroken and devastated by the sudden loss of our dad Jason, who was killed in a traffic accident. His absence has left a huge void in our lives, and we are struggling to come to terms with this tragedy."
As emergency services continue to manage the aftermath of the crash, drivers are advised to seek alternative routes and remain clear of the affected area. The fire crews were on-site for approximately an hour and a half before handing the situation over to Greater Manchester Police, who are now investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision.
