The Ohio Supreme Court is asking an appeals court to reconsider Hamilton County’s request to stop a new trial against a suspected murderer.

Since his murder conviction in 1996, Jones has maintained his innocence, and in September, Jones won a court ruling that prevents the use of prior witness testimony in a retrial, marking a significant step toward his potential freedom.
In granting the retrial, a Hamilton County Common Pleas judge determined that the state failed to provide evidence that could have aided Jones’ defense.
