ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — Families, attorneys and members of Congress are calling for immediate federal action as concerns grow over conditions inside immigration detention centers.

Georgia has one of the highest numbers of ICE detention beds in the country, and advocates say conditions inside facilities in Stewart County, Irwin County, Folkston and Atlanta are “dangerous” and “inhumane.”

Mildred Pierre is among those demanding answers.

Pierce said her fiancé, Rodney Taylor — a double amputee — is deteriorating inside Stewart. The two had recently gotten engaged and were planning their future together before he was detained.

Pierre said she fears she could lose him.

“I fear he could die,” she said.
