FARGO — Federal legislation to protect the wild horses of Theodore Roosevelt National Park is moving forward in Washington.

The Theodore Roosevelt National Park Wild Horse Protection Act is set to appear before the Energy and Natural Resources Subcommittee on National Parks on Tuesday, Dec. 9.

Advocates say the bill is long overdue, but they believe it still needs work.

According to Chris Kman, founder of Chasing Horses Wild Horse Advocates, a nonprofit that advocates for the horses at Theodore Roosevelt National Park, the bill is a crucial step in the process. Her organization has been advocating for the legislation, including suggested amendments to strengthen protections for the horses.
