WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) - Thousands of children who live in Sedgwick County will be blessed this Christmas because of the Angel Tree initiative. The Salvation Army spearheads this tradition, and says this year the need is great, but the community response has been even greater.
“Christmas happens regardless of what’s happening in the economy,” said Dulcy Palnau, with the Salvation Army.
The Salvation Army says this holiday season, it plans to give more than 8,000 children and 3,100 families brand new toys and gifts from their wish lists.
“We want to make sure that no one is without presents on Christmas morning,” said Palnau.
This mission is possible because of the Angel Tree program. Businesses hosted trees with wish lists on them, folks were invited to select a slip and shop for that ch
