GOLDFIELD, Iowa —

A man in Humboldt County died after accidentally shooting himself with a gun he thought was unloaded, according to the sheriff's office.

This incident occurred at a home on 210th Street outside Goldfield.

Investigators say George Filmalter, 26, died from his injuries.

The Humboldt County Sheriff's Office said this should serve as a stark reminder to treat all firearms as if they are loaded.
