SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) - A jury found a man guilty of first-degree murder for a deadly downtown Springfield shooting in 2023.

The jury convicted Elysha Bedell on Thursday for the death of Chaviz Nguyen. A judge will sentence him on Friday.

Police say on November 14, 2023, Bedell and four others fired shots from their car into the Nguyen’s car. The shots also hit Nguyen’s pregnant girlfriend. She survived serious injuries. Authorities say the five men followed Nguyen and his girlfriend through town before they pulled alongside Nguyen’s car as they were waiting to make a right turn and opened fire.

The Nguyen family says this shooting may have been a case of mistaken identity.
