TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) - Newly released documents show a Tucson man with a violent criminal history, including domestic violence, admitted to killing a woman during an argument and leaving her body in their home for several days.
The Tucson Police Department said 66-year-old Steven Joseph Birch is facing a first-degree murder charge for killing 74-year-old Sandra Joyce Rae-Hansen after she was found dead in the 1600 block of East Prince Road in Tucson early Wednesday, Dec. 3.
He is being held on a $1 million bond.
The interim complaint shows the couple got into a fight on Nov. 30 or Dec. 1 after Rae-Hansen booked a hotel room without talking with Birch first.
At some point, Birch started choking Rae-Hansen, but she told him to stop and to leave.
