NEWPORT, Tenn — For the first time in over a year, starting next week, people who rent a book from the Stokely Memorial Library will be able to return that book back to the library. This comes after the building was severely damaged by Hurricane Helene.
"The water got everywhere and there were puddles all the way like back in the far corner of the library, but everything was covered in mud and silt all throughout the library," Emily Majors, the library director, said.
Majors said she's excited to close the chapter of the library doors being closed. This will include new sections and additions, like new reading areas. She said the renovations to open the library again were made possible thanks to government grants and private donations.
