MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - UW Board of Regents approved UW-Madison’s proposal to create a College of Computing and Artificial Intelligence (CAI), school officials announced on Thursday.
UW-Madison will now begin planning for the CAI and school officials will make an official announcement about the new college in the spring.
UW says the college will become operational in July 2026.
“We greatly appreciate the Regents’ support for this important vision for UW–Madison, and we are excited by this important step toward making this new college a reality. This will be about more than simply building a new academic unit,” said Chancellor Jennifer Mnookin.
Mnookin added that UW-Madison is preparing students for a world in which computing and technology intersect.
