All skinny alleys and hilly streets of granite, greenstone and whitewash huddled around a rugged little harbour, Mousehole is a classic Cornish fishing village – the “loveliest” village in England, according to Dylan Thomas. But, aside from its picture-postcard looks, Mousehole (pronounced Mowzel) is best known for a fishy pie, a legendary cat and a magical display of Christmas lights.

Stargazy, or starry gazey, pie (which has whole fish heads poking out of the pastry) is the centrepiece of Tom Bawcock’s Eve , a mid-winter celebration of a local fisherman who braved a deadly storm to save the village from hunger. The event, complete with lantern procession, takes place on 23 December. New Feature
