COLUMBUS, Ohio—Now that Amy Acton has become the presumptive Democratic nominee for Ohio governor next year, prominent labor unions are finally starting to line up behind her candidacy.
On Thursday, four public-sector unions – including two chapters of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, the Ohio Civil Service Employees Association, and the Ohio Association of Public School Employees – endorsed Acton, a former state health director from suburban Columbus.
Their announcement follows Acton winning the support of the United Auto Workers on Tuesday.
Labor unions have long been a crucial supporter of Democratic candidates, providing both money and networks of volunteers. For Acton to score an upset victory next year over presumptive Republican nominee Vivek Rama
