A major fire occurred near the old Air Force base in Roswell Thursday night.

In a text message Thursday night, an official with the City of Roswell provided the following information: Roswell Fire Department and some Chaves County fire departments are currently fighting a large structure at "the base." It was reported by a passerby at around 7:55 p.m.

In another message the official also stated, "At 9:45 p.m. firefighters declared they had the fire under control."
