HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa, known for his role in “Mortal Kombat” films, has died. He was 75.

Tagawa died in Santa Barbara Thursday, reportedly due to complications from a stroke .

Tagawa played villain Shang Tsung in the 1995 movie adaptation of the video game. He went on to reprise the role across sequels, TV adaptations, and video games.

He also played a fun-loving grandfather in the hit Disney Channel movie “Johnny Tsunami,” which was partly filmed in Hawaii.

Additional movie roles include “The Last Emperor,” “Memoirs of a Geisha,” “Pearl Harbor,” and “Big Trouble in Little China.”

Tagawa lived on Kauai and is survived by his wife and three children.
