A bill aimed at developing consolidation plans to streamline the structure of New Jersey's school districts was the topic of a robust discussion in Trenton on Dec. 4.

Sponsored by state Sen. Vin Gopal, the state Senate Education Committee chair, the bill would require each executive county superintendent to develop countywide consolidation plans.

Gopal explained that the conversation was the “beginning of a major initiative that we’re going to be looking at for next year.”

“This is an issue that you would sometimes usually expect to hear from the other side of the aisle, but I think that a lot of folks across the state regardless of political party are embracing this,” said Gopal, a Democrat. “We have a lot of government in New Jersey, and I’m hoping that this is going to be the start
