MONROE, La. (KNOE) - On Dec. 5, 1933, Utah became the 36th state to ratify the 21st Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.
The amendment repealed the 18th Amendment, which had prohibited the production, transportation and sale of alcohol in the United States.
President Franklin Roosevelt immediately proclaimed prohibition was over.
The entire process took only one year.
It was the only time state conventions were used to change the constitution.
