SUFFIELD, Conn. (WTNH) — The incarcerated man accused of sexually-assaulting a Connecticut Department of Correction (DOC) officer has been found dead in his cell of apparent suicide, department officials said Thursday.

Officials said 27-year-old Jaishon Bellamy had been transferred from the Osborn Correctional Institution to the MacDougall-Walker Correctional Institution on Monday.

On Tuesday, DOC officials said an officer at the Osborn Correctional Institution had been hospitalized, but is now recovering after being assaulted by an inmate the day prior. On Thursday, the Office of the Inspector General confirmed that inmate was allegedly Bellamy.
