OAKLAND COUNTY, MI – Preliminary water tests detecting the presence of the Legionella bacteria has moved the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office to temporarily close its administration building.

The water testing was conducted after a custodial employee assigned to the building was diagnosed with Legionnaires’ Disease.

“Several water samples collected from the facility returned positive results,” a Dec. 4 sheriff’s office news release reads. “In coordination with the Oakland County Health Division and county leadership, mitigation measures have begun, and the building will remain closed until it is deemed safe to reopen.”

Legionnaires’ is a bacterial infection that grows best in warm water and is caused by legionella bacteria.
