The Department for Work and Pensions ( DWP ) has unveiled plans for a fresh initiative targeting Universal Credit fraud, set to commence towards the close of January 2026. DWP Minister Andrew Western has further outlined that the drive will concentrate on three critical areas of concern: living arrangements, capital holdings and those in self-employment.

Mr Western's statements were made via written correspondence to Labour MP Callum Anderson, who had enquired 'what assessment the DWP has made of the potential impact of public information campaigns on levels of benefit-related fraud'.
