LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A controversial proposal that aimed to bar local police and federal agents, like those associated with the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), from wearing masks in public within city limits was narrowly defeated Thursday night 13-12 after a long debate inside the Louisville Metro Council Chambers.

The final vote came just after 10:30 p.m., more than four hours after the meeting began. Council members voted 13–12 against the amendment to the current ordinance. Only one member, Councilman Marcus Winkler, voted “present,” choosing not to take a position.
