The massive Iberia II high-rise apartment complex proposed for Newark’s Ironbound section will be back before the Newark Central Planning Board on Monday night, after a judge ordered the board to reconsider its original approval of the 1,408-unit project last March.
Brooklyn-based developer Chess Builders wants to build four skyscrapers in two phases, each comprising a pair of towers: one 30 stories tall and the other 26.
Together, the two phases would include 313 studio apartments, 517 one-bedroom units, 485 two-bedroom units, and 93 three-bedroom units.
As a requirement of Newark’s inclusionary zoning ordinance , 20% of the units, or 283, would be reserved for tenants earning below the area’s median household income, and priced at below-market rates.
