EAST LANSING, Mich. — Greg and Dawn Williams just promised $401 million to Michigan State University as part of the institution's new $1 billion initiative to propel the Spartans to a higher level.

That's the largest single commitment in MSU's history and among the largest ever in college athletics. The university said this gift from the Acrisure co-founder and CEO and his wife would dramatically transform the athletics program and fuel academic excellence.

The commitment goes through MSU's institution-wide "Uncommon Will, Far Better World" campaign and will support the new athletics-oriented plan FOR SPARTA.

About $290 million of this gift will go toward the athletics campaign, university officials said.
