LEXINGTON, Neb (KSNB) — More than 3,200 Tyson Foods employees will lose their jobs in January, prompting local organizations to host a job fair at Dawson County Fairgrounds in Lexington to help workers find new employment.
Organizers said the event had a good turnout with more than 400 participants the first day. They said workers could choose to learn new skills as well as receive assistance in several areas.
Rocio Casanova, a librarian at the Lexington Public Library, said she has heard concerns from workers about leaving the community.
“I had a mom tell me she don’t want to leave Lexington. She loves Lexington. She was heartbroken,” Casanova said.
She said some workers have spent decades at the plant.
