A charming scene unfolded in the courtyard of a Creole townhouse on Magazine Street on Wednesday night, as two LGBTQ couples were married and two renewed their vows. Shyly grinning with anticipation, the pairs descended an outdoor staircase and joined hands before the wedding celebrant and a cluster of friends, family and well-wishers.
According to the event producer Kendall Burke, it was the first ‘big queer mass wedding’ in New Orleans history . Though, admittedly, it wasn’t as big as expected. “My lofty goals in the beginning were, like, let’s get 25 couples married.”
