Lester “Bo” McCalebb stayed home to play college basketball at UNO and went on to become the Privateers’ all-time leading scorer despite facing adversity.

A New Orleans native, McCalebb began attending UNO in 2003 and saw significant playing time as a freshman before taking a huge leap as a sophomore, averaging 22.5 points per game. However, McCalebb’s next season was cut short due to injury in 2005, and UNO was displaced after Hurricane Katrina.

McCalebb returned as UNO’s lead scorer for his final two college seasons and finished with 2,679 career points, over 800 more than anyone else at UNO. His jersey No. 1 will be retired at halftime of Saturday’s UNO men’s basketball game against Houston Christian at Lakefront Arena.
