Special agents with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation have made arrests from a 2024 arson case in Madison County.

In November of 2024, a house fire in Sweetwater was investigated at the request of the Sweetwater Fire Department.

The home located in the 700 block of West Morris Street had two separate fires.

The TBI's investigation found that the home's owners, identified as Melissa Whitfield and Jared Whitfield, intentionally set the fires.

A Monroe County Grand Jury returned indictments on both Melissa Whitfield and Jared Whitfield for:

• One count of Arson

• One count of Aggravated Arson

• One count of Tampering with Evidence

Both suspects were arrested December 4 and booked into the Monroe County Jail, with a bond set at $300,000 each.
