NEW ORLEANS — The ACLU announced it is dropping a lawsuit challenging a newly enacted Louisiana law, which they say could criminal free speech as it relates to immigration enforcement operations in the New Orleans region.

The ACLU withdrew its lawsuit over Louisiana’s Act 399 after stating the Attorney General assured the law would not be used against protected First Amendment activity during immigration enforcement operations.

“With the AG’s concession in hand, we’ve secured assurance that Act 399 will not target speech or protected First Amendment actions. For that reason, we’re happy to announce that we are dismissing our lawsuit without prejudice,” a spokesperson for the American Civil Liberties Union of Louisiana said in a statement.
