At least 12 people have been arrested by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Minneapolis since the beginning of December.

The arrests were made as part of "Operation Metro Surge," an ICE operation that began in Minneapolis on Monday and reportedly involves around 100 agents primarily targeting Somalis with final deportation orders.

ICE describes the dozen detainees, all men, as the "worst of the worst criminal illegal aliens," including an alleged "gang member" who's been convicted of fraud and vehicle theft, and a man found guilty of criminal sexual conduct with a minor.

Most of them are accused of domestic violence or DWI offenses, according to details shared by the Department of Homeland Security, which oversees ICE.

Five of the men are from Somalia, six are from Mexic
