NEW BERN, N.C. (WITN) - A New Bern man will spend over five years in prison after pleading guilty to drug offenses dating back two years ago.

Gregory Franks was convicted of two counts of opioid trafficking and one count of drug paraphernalia.

D.A. Matt Wareham sentenced the 38-year-old Franks to between 5 years and 10 months and 7 years and 9 months, and gave a $50,000 fine after a two-day trial.

On April 29, 2023, New Bern officers conducted a traffic stop on Franks, who they say was driving without a valid license. He was on probation for attempting to traffic cocaine at the time.

During a search, police say they found a pill in the pocket of Franks’ hoodie. He told officers he had a prescription for Percocet. However, officers then found a pill bottle in the car that was prescribed
