MANCHESTER, N.H. —

The U.S. Supreme Court on Friday announced it has agreed to take up the constitutionality of President Donald Trump's order on birthright citizenship .

The case under review came from New Hampshire.

Birthright citizenship is the first Trump immigration-related policy to reach the court for a final ruling.

The president signed the birthright citizenship order on his first day in office.

The executive order sought to limit citizenship to only children born to parents who are citizens themselves or legal permanent residents.

Every lower court that has looked at the issue has concluded that Trump's order violates or likely violates the 14th amendment.
