RALEIGH, N.C. (WITN) - A Roanoke Rapids police officer has been arrested on federal child pornography charges.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office says Isaac Nielsen was arrested yesterday by the FBI.

The feds say in May, an undercover officer was in a chat with someone on a website known for promoting sexual content.

During the conversations, Nielsen is accused of sending the undercover officer child pornography and talked about his interest in having sexual contact with children.

The FBI was notified and on December 1st they identified Nielsen as the user on the website.

The 31-year-old is charged with the distribution and possession of child pornography.

If convicted, Nielsen faces between 5 and 30 years in prison.
