HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Nearly three months after a deadly shooting on Navy property in Wahiawa, the U.S. Army has identified the alleged gunman.
Sgt. Corey Kelly, 25, a soldier assigned to the 25th Infantry Division Sustainment Brigade at Schofield Barracks, is accused of killing Devaughn Pita in August.
Pita’s loved ones say the 23-year-old was trying to help his ex-girlfriend and their four-year-old son escape an abusive relationship.
Officials with the U.S. Army Office of the Special Trial Counsel (OSTC) said 10 charges and 21 specifications were preferred against Kelly stemming from Pita’s murder.
Kelly’s charges include:
unpremeditated murder
murder while engaging in an act inherently dangerous to another
unlawful carry of a concealed weapon
attempted assault
aggravated a
