A resident who was in the process of being evicted has been charged with arson in Thursday’s fire at the Kinder Park Apartments.
Bernard Bruno, 77, is charged with arson, reckless endangerment and risking a catastrophe after the fire at the senior housing facility on the 1800 block of Constitution Avenue in the Woodlyn section of Ridley Township.
Bruno was arraigned before District Judge Wendy B. Roberts who set a cash bail of $250,000, which Bruno was unable to post and so taken to Delaware County prison to await a preliminary hearing.
Ridley Township Police Lt. John Hamill said police and fire firefighters were called to the senior facility at 10:14 a.m. and arrived to find smoke in the building. They immediately began evacuating the 75 residents and 75 aid staff.
