Three people were taken into custody after a suspected drug smuggling boat loaded with some $28 million worth of cocaine was stopped in the waters off Miami Beach, authorities said.
The seizure happened Tuesday about two miles east of Government Cut, U.S. Coast Guard officials said.
Coast Guard officials said U.S. Customs and Border Protection and Homeland Security Investigations assisted in the operation.
Once the vessel was brought pierside, a CBP K-9 alerted agents to multiple locations, and when they were searched, more than 1,000 concealed packages of cocaine were found, officials said.
The cocaine weighed around 3,715 pounds and is worth around $28 million, officials said.
