IOWA CITY — A judge on Friday convicted an Iowa City man of robbing and trying to kill a woman on the University of Iowa campus in April of 2022.

Sixth Judicial District Judge Kevin McKeever found Ali Younes, 22, guilty of attempted murder, first-degree robbery and first-degree theft. McKeever presided over the two-day bench trial in July .

The judge didn’t go into details on his analysis and findings but said the written verdict would be filed after the brief hearing on Friday. McKeever also accepted Younes’ guilty plea in a separate but related charge of escape by a felon that was the result of Younes fleeing to Jordan while on pretrial release in the attempted murder case.
